Horizon Zero Dawn Continue Save File After End Quest

No it's normal. The map returns back to its original state before the final mission.

a lot of games that have tons of side quests, explorations do that. It's so that you can finish the story and after it still continue exploring.

This is a very strange approach indeed. And totally illogical.

Nope. Not true. You are right in the part tha a lot of open world games that have side quests are still open for exploration and to finish side quests and activities after you finish the main story.
But i haven't seen a single game out there which is also reseting the last story mission so you can re-do and farm it over and over again.
This is a stupid game design.

I don't know how many games you have played, but this is a very common design choice made in these style of games. Take the Mass Effect series for example as just one of many RPGs that do this. It is so that you can finish more side-quests before the main mission, which has a direct affect of potential characters you may see in said final mission. It isn't a stupid game design at all, and makes sense. Without spoiling the ending for those who have yet to finish the game, It wouldn't make sense for Aloy to stick around after the events of the final mission. She is too curious by nature, and the Forbidden West awaits. By reverting back to right before the final battle, it solves that issue of "Why would Aloy stay if she completed her mission". I'm not sure why some people have an issue with this tbh

You haven't read my comment....didn't you?
You pulled out that one sentece of the comment and replied to it but i already said...."You are right in the part tha a lot of open world games that have side quests are still open for exploration and to finish side quests and activities after you finish the main story."
So you made a long reply in arguing with me what i already said before and which makes us being on the same opinion in THIS SPECIFIC aspect of the topic.
Please read my comment again. The main topic of OP wans't about being able to continue playing the game after main story.
It was about the LAST MAIN QUEST being reset after you finish it.
( BTW only a FEW of the side quests have characters who will or will not appear at the final mission to talk to depending if you finished their missions or not. But they have ZERO impact on the ending. Just conversation options. I have done all these side quests but the last quest still appears. So it is still a stupid design. A lazy one)

I did indeed read your entire reply, and likewise I thought I explained myself well enough. I quoted the part I had the most issue with, and explained precisely why they made this choice. If you were not aware, different characters can appear in the preparations and scenes of the final mission based on the side-quests you chose to complete and how you chose to complete them ( for example, Nils fights alongside you if you completed his storyline and chose to not kill him in his final side-mission ). That is the main reason why games like this revert to right before the final main mission, so that you can experience what you may have missed out on the first time. Yes they don't affect the final outcome at all, but they are nice-to-haves that add to the lore. Likewise, another reason it brings you back to right before you start the main quest is that it makes no sense to put Aloy (and the player) into a playable world where her main missions are done. Those were her driving force. The cutscenes at the very very end of main mission, after the credits, implies that she did not stay in the Sundom after that final fight. Letting you, the player, continue playing as her in a post-final-mission world would not make a lot of sense.

It's so you can do the final mission again. Theres no point in keeping the the destroyed version of a map, especially when people may have sidequests to do later on. Games like Far Cry do it often, BotW and countless others to explore different options and etc. It's not as uncommon as you think, especially for an open world game.

I think we are on the same side but speaking away next to each other.
Again. I'm very well aware that some characters from side quests can appear at the final mission. But again, that wasn't the point of this thread. Not at all :)
And again,
- Yes there are a lot of open world games out there where the game world continues to be explorable after main mission finished (if not all of the open world games are like that)
- No, there is none open world game out there which is completely reseting the final main mission to to be replayable. That's what the NG+ is for.
;)

Yes and no.
I see nobody gets what OP is talking about.
Games like FC are leaving the map open after main mission. But could you ever re-do the final main mission over and over again in any FC game without manually re-loading a save or restarting the whole campaign? Nope.

Breath of the wild did this. You know, that game that got game of the year? yeah

Edit: Also, for reasons of spoilers I'm not gonna share details, but it makes total sense for the game to do this.

Everybody gets what the OP is talking about, you just don't seem to get their comments.
Countless games did this and multiple games are still doing this.
As others have mentioned:
BotW for example.
Or New Vegas.

You get a save right before doing the final mission and the game even warns you about this.
After you have finished it you get to load this one save again so you can do everything else you might have missed, before the final mission.

I personally prefer when games allow you to explore the map in post-game, even if there was some kind of cataclysmic event. Some games will even feature entirely new content only available in post-game, with all the NPCs having dialogue to acknowledge what happened etc.

The way HZD does it is fine too.

This is especially nice when you can do the final mission with whatever you have when you arrive at the mission at the end of the first playthrough, and then you get reset after the mission to before it to tackle any sidequests, and then you get to be able to play that penultimate mission again but now with all possible collectible gear without having to replay the entire game. Especially if you forget to make a manual save right before the point of no return.

I finished the last Main Quest and killed the Main Boss HADES . I get the Info about New Game+ und then I find myself near the city and in my Quest Log is the last Main Quest again.
Is this normal or a bug?

It gave you a full screen window of texting telling you that it had done that.
